To coincide with the launch of REID Lifting Inc in the US, lifting and lowering specialist REID Lifting has developed a greener and cleaner way of packaging its davits and gantries for shipping both overseas and in the UK.
In line with its stated aim of eliminating all single use plastics from its packaging, the company has switched to a sustainable and recyclable cardboard alternative for its market leading product range.
REID Lifting’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, James Wilde helped to develop the new, bespoke packaging solution which replaces the plastic wrapping used previously with strong and durable cardboard containers which are easy to stack and easy to ship.
James said: “This represents a huge step forward in reducing the environmental impact of our products. They are already made from fully recyclable aluminium, and now they are being packaged in fully recyclable cardboard as well. We think this will be a really popular move amongst our customers who we know share our commitment to a greener future.”
The new rigid cardboard containers give optimum protection to the products during transporting and shipping and, because they can be stacked one on top of each other, are helping REID to pack more products into each container and onto each lorry.
This, added James Wilde, is particularly key to REID’s plans for expansion in the US: “Packed in plastic wrap, our products could only be stacked to waist height which meant we were sometimes shipping air. Now, we can stack floor to ceiling much more efficiently and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our products as they are exported to the US and around the world.”
REID Lifting has three different packaging options to accommodate around 80% of its products in a range of standard sizes. Customers can expect to receive sustainably packed orders from February 2020.
