REID Lifting celebrates World Earth Day 2021
REID Lifting is focused on reducing the environmental impact which our business has on the world, this World Earth Day we wanted to share our top 6 which we have managed to achieve to reduce our carbon footprint and move toward becoming a more sustainable business.
1. Zero waste to landfill – In 2020 we successfully managed to ensure none of our waste goes to landfill. We achieved zero landfill waste by having dry and mixed recycling collections and recycling all metal waste and other wastes diverted to produce electricity.
2. Remove plastic packaging – We have developed a greener and cleaner way of packaging our lifting systems by switching out our plastic wrapping to replace it with durable cardboard containers. Currently, around 80% of our product range can be packaged more sustainably and we are working to increase this. Our cardboard packaging is also stackable, which significantly reduces the carbon footprint of our products as they are exported to the US and around the world. You can learn more about our new packaging here.
3. Sustainable and durable solutions – We have expertly engineered our systems through the use of lightweight aluminium as an alternative to steel. Aluminium is one of the most sustainable metals, with over 75% of the aluminium produced is still in use today and using recycled aluminium saves close to 80 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year. You can learn more about our aluminium solutions here.
4. Energy consumption – We have been focused on reducing REID’s energy consumption focusing on our gas, electricity, and water consumption. A few things we have changed is switching to more sustainable LED lighting, managing timer settings and identified and fixed building leaks.
5. Paper consumption – We have focused on reducing our in-house paper consumption by changing the way we process orders in-house which now includes using electrical devices. We have also switched from paper to electronic payslips.
6. Vehicle Fleet – This year we have replaced two 3.5 tonne trucks with a single 7.5 tonne truck which has reduced the number of trips required, helping to reduce transport congestion and reduce our carbon footprint.
